Jack’s Mama’s Creations Booties for Baby & Mom
I received these items at no cost in order to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own.
There are two things that are of particular importance to me. The first is supporting small local businesses, and the second is keeping my feet warm. I don’t know about you, but my feet are always cold. I don’t just mean that they feel a bit chilly sometimes. No no. I mean that they are frigid soul destroying icicles attached to the bottom of my legs that refuse to stay warm. When Denise of Jack’s Mama’s Creations reached out to me about her handmade booties, I jumped at the opportunity to give her booties a go. Jack’s Mama’s Creations was started in 2014 and is based out of Edmonton, Alberta. Denise makes lovely handmade items for littles and their mamas. Of course she makes booties and slippers, but she also has a great selection of infinity scarves, mom bun hats, cowls, fingerless gloves, and other items in her shop! I simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity for Petit Prince and I to have matching booties, so Denise made us custom matching pairs to try. Do I love them? In a word: yes. Are our feet actually warm now? Yes! But there’s so much more to know about these special booties!
Jack’s Mama’s Creations booties are made with a soft yarn that’s an acrylic/wool blend. The inner sole of the booties are available with a minky insole and faux suede outsole or with a shearling insole and faux suede outsole. The booties Petit Prince and I have are made with the shearling insole. The booties are intended to be worn indoors, in the stroller, or in a baby carrier, but can be worn outside if it’s dry. There are a variety of button styles to choose from, if you want that type of embellishment added to your booties. There’s a tie woven through the ankle of the booties that works great to keep the booties on your baby or toddler’s feet.
Let me start off with Petit Prince’s booties. I love knit booties for babies and toddlers. Socks are fine, of course, but a bootie is just better. Jack’s Mama’s Creations booties are particularly special because they are available in two shaft heights: ankle or tall. What’s the difference? The ankle height booties are a lower shaft height than the tall. Why does that matter? Babywearing! If you wear your baby much you’ll probably have noticed that baby’s pants have a tendency to ride up at the ankle once he’s settled into the carrier or wrap. This isn’t a big deal in the warmer months of spring and summer, but when the weather starts to cool off in the fall, it is a wee bit of a problem. There are lots of things you can do to keep those ankled covered (and therefore warm), but wouldn’t a taller bootie that keeps the ankles covered in the first place be a great solution? I think so! This is exactly what Jack’s Mama’s Creations’ tall booties accomplish. The tall shaft height is perfect for keeping ankles covered and cozy, and we all know that means a happy baby!
Aside from how incredibly adorable Petit Prince’s Jack’s Mama’s Creations booties are, they’re also really functional. They’ve been the perfect slipper for him to wear over the holidays as they keep his feet much warmer than just a pair of socks. Let’s be honest, socks rarely stay on a toddler’s feet, so booties that actually stay on all day are a vast improvement. These booties are also really warm. We’ve spent the holidays with my family and they like to keep the house a little cooler than we do at home. Petit Prince’s little toes have stayed nice and toasty in his Jack’s Mama’s Creations booties. I also like that they are little less slippery on the wood floors than his socks. When I have Petit Prince in the carrier, these tall booties actually keep his lower leg well covered. I don’t need to add extra layers under his pants to ensure his ankles and calves aren’t exposed when I wear him. The booties fit nicely over slim pants or leggings, and can be worn under more loose fitting pants (like his jeans).
My Jack’s Mama’s Creations booties are awesome too. Not only are my icicle feet actually warm when I wear them, but they stay on well and don’t cause my feet to overheat. Maybe I’m the only one this happens to, but some slippers I’ve had will make my feet so hot they get sweaty and then they get cold because they’re damp. Just me? Well, that’s a little embarrassing… Nevertheless, my Jack’s Mama’s Creations booties don’t lead to damp clammy cold feet. My toes stay at the perfect cozy temperature no matter how long I keep them on. You know what else? I’ve even worn them to bed. Because who wants freezing cold feet when you’re trying to sleep? Not me! They are comfy and soft enough to wear to bed, and I can just kick them off when my feet are sufficiently warmed under the covers. As an added bonus, Petit Prince and I can be all cute and matchy matchy in our booties together. Win win.
In case you’re curious, yes, Jack’s Mama’s Creations booties can be washed! They can go in the machine on the gentle/delicates cycle, but should be air dried. I’d toss them into a mesh laundry bag even if you’re using the gentle/delicates cycle. That’s if you absolutely must take them off yours and your little one’s feet which you really won’t want to do!
