Washing Cloth Diapers in HARD Water

Does anyone else remember that ad about hard water that ran on TV during The Price is Right some time in the mid 90s? You know the one. A couple well into retirement are sitting on their couch at home staring at a test strip that the woman is holding. They look shocked and confused. They say something along the lines of “How can that be?” and “At our age?”. You’re supposed to think it’s a pregnancy test, but then an announcer comes on and asks if you know if you have hard water. Remember that? No? Just me? Doesn’t matter. The point is that most people are surprised to learn that they have hard water. Anyone can have hard water. Yes, even you! It doesn’t matter if you are on city water, town water, well water, collected rain water, whatever, you could have hard water and not even know it. I’m going to explain how to find out if you have hard water and what that means for washing your cloth diapers. Yes, you can absolutely still cloth diaper with hard water, but you may need to take an extra step when you wash them to prevent build up. Here’s what you need to know.  Read More

Why the Today Show Car Seat Video Isn’t Helping

Why The Today Show Car Seat Video Isn't Helping

By now you’ve probably seen the video from the Today Show that was spreading like wildfire across social media on Monday. If you haven’t seen it, you can watch it here. This video was part of a special series called “Rossen Reports: Save A Life” and each day during that series the host, Jeff Rossen, is going to share some winter related safety tip. Sounds great, right? Sure. So what winter safety tip was being showcased in the video that went viral? Car seat safety. Yup. Now before you go celebrating how amazing it is that the mainstream media are finally spreading the word about not wearing winter coats in car seats, you might want to watch that video again. This is what I call an opportunity missed, and here’s why.  Read More

Advent Calendar Fun!

Advent Calendar Fun!

Counting down the days until Christmas is so much fun! I love a good advent calendar as much as the next person, but I especially love advent calendars that engage the kids or are unique in some way. Now that The Heir is three, he seemed ready for a more adventurous advent calendar. One that required some thinking, some patience, and a whole lot of fun! King Dad also received an advent calendar this year, and it’s been just as much fun, if not more so, than the one The Heir has been working on. Want to know more about the advent calendars counting down the days until Christmas in our house? Let me share them with you! Read More

I’ve been in the cloth diapering world for almost four years now, and I have to admit that I didn’t know a whole lot about Glow Bug Cloth Diapers. I’d heard of them and I’d seen their posts on Facebook before, but I’d never had one in my hands or on the bum at my house. I can tell you I was really thrilled when Glow Bug Cloth Diapers was interested in sending me one of their diapers to review! I really had no opinions on these diapers, good or bad, so it was great to get a chance to check them out for myself. You know what? I think they’re a pretty nice cloth diaper. If you’re a Glow Bug Cloth Diaper newbie like me, or maybe you’re a tried and true fan of the brand, read on to hear what I think about them!  Read More
