Beautiful Bibs from Bella Luna

Unless you have a toddler, it might come as a surprise to you that bibs are still a necessary item in Petit Prince’s life. It’s not that he’s particularly messy, it’s just that, well, he’s a toddler. Over the last two years he’s gone through a variety of bib phases, and these days bibs are reserved for meal times and for painting. You might assume that a bib is a bib, but I’m here to tell you that this is absolutely not the case. Not all bibs are created equal, and the bibs from Bella Luna are a step above. I’ve been using the Bella Luna Boutique and Bandana bibs, and let me tell you that these bibs are more than just an adorable accessory. Read on for my complete review of Bella Luna bibs!

The Details:

Bella Luna makes two different styles of bibs. The Boutique Bib and the Bandana Bib. The Boutique Bib is a full coverage sleeveless bib. It has a double snap closure at the side of the neck which means it’s going to stay on! The neck opening is the perfect size for little ones and doesn’t gape around the neck letting food or dribbles fall under it at the neck opening. Each Boutique Bib is made with a printed fabric in the front. Though some are available with a PUL front, the one I received has a performance knit printed fabric. Behind that print is a hidden layer of absorbent material so if your little one spills it will be quickly absorbed into the core of the bib. The back layer of the bib is made with waterproof PUL, so anything the bib does absorb will stay off baby’s outfit.

The Bella Luna Bandana Bib doubles as a fashion piece for baby. The perfect finishing touch to any outfit, the Bandana Bib is a combination of style and function. The Bandada Bib has a snap closure with two size settings so it can be adjusted as baby grows. Like the Boutique Bib, the Bandana Bib has a printed material front that feels like a performance knit. There’s a hidden absorbent layer behind that performance knit, and the back of the bib is made with waterproof PUL. The Bandana Bib is the ultimate solution for a teething baby or toddler that just keeps drooling! With a waterproof PUL backing, you can actually keep your drooling teething little one in the same outfit for the whole day without their shirt being soaked!

Bella Luna’s bibs are made with prints and designs that coordinate with the Bella Luna cloth diaper prints. They combine with the cloth diapers to make the perfect first birthday outfit or the perfect look for a cake smash photoshoot! The Boutique Bib and Bandana Bib that I received for Petit Prince coordinate perfectly with the Waves Traditional pocket diaper I have without being a perfect match. It’s adorable!

How It Works:

Petit Prince is just over two years old now, but let me tell you about what he was like from 4 to 9 months. I can sum it up in one word: damp. I don’t know what was going on in his mouth all that time, but he was drooling something fierce. I was going through cotton bib after cotton bib, up to five a day in a valiant effort to keep his shirt dry. They may have claimed to be absorbent, but after just a short time on Petit Prince, they’d be soaked through and his shirt would be drenched. I couldn’t understand why no one was making cute PUL backed drooling bibs! Well, it turns out Bella Luna was making PUL backed bibs and I just didn’t know about them. The Bandana Bib is the ultimate drooling bib. It combines everything I wanted in a drool bib: it’s adorable, it coordinates with my cloth diapers, it has an absorbent layer to soak up all the drool, AND it’s waterproof! If you have a teething baby or toddler, you need Bella Luna’s Bandana Bibs in your life.

The Boutique Bib is a great size for meal time. I love that the neck opening is small enough that it  catches smoothie dribbles or purées running down the chin. It’s full length front is perfect for babies just starting solids and will sit over their lap to catch the food that is inevitably going to drop. As baby grows into toddlerhood, it’s large enough to provide good coverage over their whole torso. I love that I don’t have to compromise on the cute factor with Bella Luna’s Boutique Bib. If I could change one thing about the Boutique Bib, I would make it so it has two snap settings like the Bandana Bib. At just over two years old, I’m finding the Boutique Bib opening a bit snug around Petit Prince’s neck. He isn’t bothered by it, but I worry that it won’t fit much longer. That double snap closure is amazing though! If you’ve ever had a toddler who doesn’t want to wear their bib at dinner time, you’ll know that they turn into the Hulk and can pull any bib off from around their neck. Not the Bella Luna Boutique Bib! It’s snapped so securely it’s not coming off until an adult removes it. The PUL backing is key with the Boutique Bib as well. That hidden absorbency keeps spills from just rolling right off the front of the bib, and the PUL back keeps wetness off your child and inside the bib where it belongs!

As for washing up these bibs, it’s so easy! They really clean up well. I toss mine in with my regular clothing laundry, and they come out sparkling every time. You can even throw them in with your cloth diapers if you’re so inclined! I put mine in the dryer on low and haven’t experienced any shrinking or shape shifting.
