I’ve been in the cloth diapering world for a little while, since 2012 to be exact. I thought I’d heard of most brands of cloth diapers, but I have to admit that I’d only recently heard about Bambino Mio. It’s hard to believe considering that they’ve been around since 1997, and are available in over 70 countries worldwide. But here I was, little old cloth diapering me unaware of the hugely popular cloth diaper brand! Surely if didn’t know about Bambino Mio, there’s a good chance you haven’t heard of them before either. And you know what? You really should hear about them! Bambino Mio was started by a husband and wife team in Northamtonshire in England after they’d launched a diaper laundering service. Realizing that cloth diapering was the way of the future, they decided to start selling their own diapers for families to use and wash at home. After nearly 20 years and over 50 awards, Bambino Mio still sticks to their core family values: to manufacture high quality, simple, cloth diapers and associated products and make them accessible and affordable to all. I’ve been using the Bambino Mio miosolo all-in-one cloth diaper on Petit Prince for the last little while, and I’m actually impressed! I like these diapers a lot, and I think you will too!

The Details:

The Bambino Mio miosolo is a one size all-in-one cloth diaper. That means that all the components needed to make it a functioning diaper are sewn together. This makes it easy to get it ready to go on the bum as you never have to hunt through the pile of laundry to match a shell to its inserts. The outside of the miosolo is made with a stretchy water-resistant PUL layer, and the inner is a super soft stay-dry polyester material. There are encased elastics around both leg openings, and at the back of the diaper. The miosolo is designed to fit from birth through potty training (from 8 lbs and up). It accommodates this range of sizing with three different rise settings. The rise is adjustable with 2 x 3 rise snaps on the front of the diaper. The diaper is secured onto baby using a velcro closure. There’s a strip of velcro across the front of the diaper, and velcro on each of the tabs of the diaper. These tabs can be crossed over to make for a snug fit on smaller babies. Inside the diaper tabs are laundry tabs for folding the velcro back when laundering to prevent the velcro from sticking to other diapers in the wash.

Inside the Bambino Mio miosolo is the stay-dry polyester inner. There’s a small strip of PUL at the front of the diaper to help prevent wicking. The miosolo has a back pocket opening where the soaker is stuffed inside the shell. The absorbency of the miosolo is comprised of one four layer quilted microfibre soaker that is sewn onto the upper opening of the pocket. There’s a stay dry polyester pouch sewn onto the bottom of the microfibre soaker where a booster can be tucked in as needed. On the back of the microfibre soaker are two little handles sewn on. These make it easy to pull the soaker out of the diaper shell for washing. There’s a back flap that covers the pocket opening so the microfibre soaker is not in contact with baby’s skin. At the front of the pocket, there’s a small rectangle of microfibre sewn into the pocket lining.

Available to purchase separately is the Bambino Mio mioboost microfibre booster. This is a three layer microfibre booster with a soft stay dry polyester layer sewn on top. It can be stuffed into the pocket of the miosolo AIO diaper by tucking it into the stay dry pouch on the sewn in microfibre soaker or it can be laid on top of the miosolo AIO with the stay dry layer facing baby’s skin.

How It Works:

Petit Prince has been wearing the Bambino Mio miosolo AIO on the medium rise setting. He’s currently 22lbs 3oz and 32″ tall at 19 months old. In terms of the fit, I find it fits him well. At the medium rise setting, he does need the tabs to be crossed over in the front to ensure that there are no gaps at the leg openings. I’d say he’s really on the cusp of needing the be on the medium rise and he would still have enough bum coverage if I snapped it down to the smallest rise setting. The miosolo AIO is a generously cut diaper, and when fully unsnapped it is larger than some of the other one size diapers I have in our cloth diaper stash. I have no doubt that the miosolo AIO will fit most toddlers through potty training. Though the microfibre soaker is four layers and feels fairly thick, I don’t find that translates to a particularly bulky bum when the diaper is on. It’s not the trimmest diaper we have, but it’s far from the most bulky.

Let’s talk about that microfibre. I know a lot of you are probably groaning about the microfibre soaker in the miosolo AIO, but to be perfectly honest, I don’t mind it. I should say that I don’t dislike microfibre to begin with and have had great success with it for both The Heir and Petit Prince. I have not experienced stink in microfibre or loss of absorbency (and that’s after a full 19 months of use on Petit Prince without ever stripping them). Yes, it can be prone to compression leaks, but I have not experienced any such leaks with the miosolo AIO despite Petit Prince’s inability to stop crashing on his bum repeatedly throughout the day. How about the absorbency of the miosolo AIO? It’s actually pretty good! He’s had it on first thing in the morning when Petit Prince tends to pee a lot, he’s had it on through an unexpectedly long nap, he’s even had it on overnight (with one mioboost). It has never leaked. Not once. It’s been fully saturated after three hours of wear during the day, but it has not leaked. Yes, I said it’s been on overnight without leaking. Stuffed with the sewn in microfibre soaker and one mioboost microfibre booster, the miosolo AIO lasted Petit Prince, a toddler, all night long. That’s twelve hours. It was completely saturated, yes. Did it leak? Nope.

The closure on the Bambino Mio miosolo AIO is the only thing I really don’t love about it. It’s no secret that I prefer a snap closure, and one with a double row of snaps at that. I just find that a double row of snaps allows for a more custom fit (smaller fit around the legs but bigger over the tummy or vice versa). I do find that I have to tighten the velcro closure on the miosolo AIO a little tighter than I’d like to prevent gaps at the leg openings. I also find that the velcro tabs are a little small so there’s not a whole lot of stick there. Petit Prince is at an age where he’s constantly pulling at his diapers, and he can get the tabs of the miosolo AIO open if he tries hard enough. It’s not a huge deal as I still put him in onesies most of the time anyway (and then he can’t get to his diaper tabs). What the velcro closure is perfect for is caregivers or daycare providers! I know a lot of daycare providers prefer velcro closure diapers for quick and easy changes, so the miosolo AIO is perfect for that. They’re easy to get on, absorb really well, and are all one piece so baby’s care provider can just put it on and take it off without any fussing.

Pros:

  • One size allows for the diaper to grow with baby
  • AIO design means no parts to sort and match
  • Wide back pocket opening makes stuffing the sewn in soaker easy
  • Generous cut shell should truly fit through potty training
  • Excellent absorbency
  • Can be used overnight with the mioboost
  • Stay dry inner keeps baby feeling dry
  • Strip of PUL inside the front of the shell prevents wicking

Cons:

  • Smallest rise setting is on the large size, may not fit small babies from birth
  • Soaker is microfibre which may be a turn off to some
  • Velcro tabs could be larger for more grip at the closure
  • No snap closure available

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I really do like the Bambino Mio miosolo AIO cloth diaper. When I saw the little card in the package I received suggesting I try it out overnight, I admit that I was hesitant. Never one to shy away from such a challenge, I went for it and was pleasantly surprised with how well the miosolo performed with the mioboost overnight. I will say that Petit Prince is not a super soaker overnight, so the miosolo may need more than just a mioboost overnight if your little one is a heavy wetter. For moderate overnight wetters, the miosolo AIO with mioboost is a great affordable overnight option. I like the fit of the miosolo AIO and find that it has excellent bum coverage. It’s not the trimmest diaper we have, but it provides excellent coverage. We’ve experienced no leaks with the miosolo AIO, and I’ve definitely put it to the test. I love how soft the stay dry inner material is of the miosolo AIO. I find Petit Prince can be a little sensitive to wetness against his skin, so a stay dry inner is a bonus for me. The back pocket opening is my favourite placement, and I love that I can add any inserts I have in my stash to boost the miosolo as needed. The pocket is a generous size, and the shell is roomy, so I could fit even the largest soakers in my stash in there for overnight stuffing. All in all, the Bambino Mio miosolo AIO is an easy to use, absorbent, and convenient all-in-one one size diaper.
