What first birthday bash would be complete without at least one toy for that little toddler? An awesome toy for your one year old is gift idea number four! I have lots of ideas for the perfect gift for those little babies that are turning into a toddler and this week I’m going to tell you about my TOP FIVE gifts for a first birthday. At the end of the week, there’ll be a GRAND PRIZE GIVEAWAY where one lucky reader will have the chance to win ALL FIVE of the gifts I’ll be featuring! Are you excited yet? I know I am! Gift number one is Öko Créations Hooded Bath Poncho, gift number two is Usborne Children’s Books’ Touchy-Feely “That’s not my…” board book, and gift number three is a pair of Minimoc Moccasins & Shoes! That brings us to the fourth gift for baby’s first birthday, and it’s a toy from Lagoon Baby!

For some reason, for baby’s first birthday, everyone seems to be thinking the exact same thing. Baby’s starting to really get on the move and everyone seems to gravitate towards toys that move baby around. I’m talking ride-on toys! My kids both happen to love ride-on toys, but so did every single person that came to The Heir’s first birthday party. At last count he received FIVE ride-on toys for his first birthday. What I’m trying to say here is that it’s okay to think outside the box for a first birthday gift! There are SO MANY other toys that a one year old will be able to grow into and enjoy for years to come, and you can find a lot of them at Lagoon Baby! If you’ve heard of Lagoon Baby before, you probably immediately think of cloth diapers. Did you know that Lagoon Baby carries WAY MORE than just cloth diapers? It’s true. There’s a whole wide selection of toys and interactive games for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers at Lagoon Baby. You’ll find dolls and doll carriers, puzzles and magnet activities, and wooden toys and teethers. There’s one wooden toy from Lagoon Baby that I love, and Petit Prince has been loving it too! It’s the Janod Mini Looping Pull Along Toy!

If you aren’t familiar with Janod toys, let me give you a brief introduction! Janod is a company based in France that has been making toys for children for over 40 years. Janod’s specialty is wooden toys, and their toys display an incredible level of quality and design. Made from natural wood, Janod toys are a modern twist on classic children’s toys.

The Janod Mini Looping Pull Along Toy is a great wooden toy for any toddler. It comes in a variety of animal shapes including a turtle, a rooster, a whale, a ladybug, and an octopus. Painted with beautiful bright colours, this Janod wooden toy is sure to intrigue your toddler. As a pull along toy, it has a long cord attached to the front that allows your toddler to pull the toy along with them wherever they go! The wheels on the Janod Mini Looping Pull Along Toy are wooden, and roll really smoothly on any surface. I like to keep ours up on the train table so when Petit Prince pulls himself up there to play, he can pull it along the table as he cruises along.

What really sets this pull along toy apart from others I’ve seen is the bead spiral! There’s a built in bead spiral maze that wraps around and through the body of the toy. There are six multi coloured round wooden beads that are strung along the spiral maze, and they make a fun sound when Petit Prince plays with his Janod turtle. I love that this bead spiral maze encourages Petit Prince to use his fine motor skills to slide the beads along the spiral track.

The pull cord on the Janod Mini Looping Pull Along Toy is sturdy and long. It’s done in a colour that matches the spiral maze that the wooden beads are strung on. Of course as Petit Prince isn’t quite walking on his own, so he’s not pulling this toy along with him just yet, but he is chewing on that pull cord! It’s definitely sturdy and thick enough to withstand a little toddler teething action, and I don’t see any of the fibres breaking or coming loose. So chew away teething toddlers!

Another thing I really love about the Janod Mini Looping Pull Along Toy is that is isn’t HUGE. With two kids in the house, our playroom is beginning to resemble a toy store (as my mother so kindly points out every time she visits). The last thing we need is yet another massive toy taking up precious space in our home. The Janod wooden pull along toy is nice and small. It’s the perfect size for little hands, and it takes up practically no space at all in the house! Win win!

  38. I am not familiar with this brand. Will look for it for my next purchase!

  39. I LOVE the fact that wooden pull along toys are becoming more common! It’s funny that this is featured in Baby’s 1st Birthday Bash – my friend’s little man just turned 1 year in June, and one of the things I got him was a wooden pull along toy from a local store. It was a little puppy who’s tail wagged when pulled 🙂 Although he isn’t walking yet, he is definitely playing with the toy now – very true that they are something the little ones can continue to grow with vs ride on toys like you mentioned, which are outgrown fast. I love the fact that the turtle has the bead maze to incorporate motor development – the one I bought local doesn’t have that! And the turtle is priced more reasonably. I’ll definitely check them out at Lagoon Baby next time I’m shopping around their store 🙂

  40. We are moving away from “baby” toys and this looks like a great alternative!

  44. I love wooden toys that are timeless. I still have a few my kids had as children I can pass along to my grandson! Thank you for introducing me to a new wooden toy company!
